Abia state was created from part of Imo state in 1991, it is a state in the south eastern part of Nigeria which occupies about 6,320 sq/km. Th capital city is Umuahia while the major commercial hub is Aba. Oil and gas contributes to over 30% of the state's GDP. (Abia State on Wikipedia)
The name "Abia" was derived from the densely populated rehions of the state namely Aba (A), Bendel (B), Isuikwuato (I) and Afikpo (A). The state has 17 local government areas. The Indigenous people of Abia are mainly Igbos and the traditional language is also Igbo. Abia is bounded by Imo and Rivers State to the South, Akwa Ibom to the east, Anambra and Enugu to the North.
